As the evening drew to a close, the studio remained aglow with the warmth of shared experiences, reaffirming Lotus’s role as a beacon of creativity, connection, and empowerment in the artistic landscape.

Hi, I’m Maryam, and I’m 9 years old. I really, really like playing sports, especially football. Art is super fun too! I enjoy using colored pencils and markers at Lotus. I make drawings of the outside world and fruits. At Lotus, doing art is the best because the teachers let us do whatever we want. I love that! My favorite colors are purple, blue and turquoise. I don’t know why, but they’re just really nice colors. The coolest thing at Lotus is seeing other students making amazing stuff. I have some artworks at home that I made at Lotus. They’re like monsters and animals, and I’m really proud of them. Sometimes, I feel a little shy showing them to my friends, and I get nervous showing them to my family. But guess what? They like them! I even gave some to my mom’s friends, and she put them in her office. I felt so happy about that. One day, I want to be a football player and an artist at the same time. Maybe, my artworks will be in a museum! For kids like me who love art, I’d say always pick the best colors and focus when you’re creating something. It’s so much fun!

Born in rural South Africa in 1968, Michael has always been fascinated with the process of creating abstract and stylistic aesthetics. Michael started his art journey at Lotus back in 2013 in order to fulfill the requirements of his Bachelor Honors Degree in Interior Architecture and Design.

He then made a career in Retail Architecture and Design. His artistic journey was greatly inspired by cultural diversity and he discovered that his interest did not lie in photo realism, but rather the freedom and experimentation that comes with creating abstract art. He felt natural and expressive and could reach within as he reflects it on the canvas. As an artist, Micheal has been exploring the art of art making and educating himself through experimentation. His work is characterized by an abstract vision of minimalism, and he enjoys working with a variety of media such as oil, acrylic, textures, collage, printing, photography, and any other material that allows me to create unique art pieces.

My interest in photography developed late, becoming evident while working as a graphic designer for a company in my hometown in Sri Lanka. Photography and graphic design often works side by side, providing me with opportunities to use a camera for some project requirements. Capturing shots for these projects brought me immense satisfaction and made me realize my passion for photography. I then decided to pursue it as a potential professional career. Upon moving to Dubai, I discovered Lotus which marked a pivotal moment in my photographic journey. It was at Lotus that I truly developed my skills and learned the proper techniques, guided by my mentor, Dr. Zia. Currently, I am working as a Lotus Studio Assistant, seizing this valuable opportunity to enhance my knowledge and skills. This internship has proven to be the best platform for me to learn academically and refine my abilities in the field of photography. As a photographer, I don’t really focus on one definitive style. Instead, the photos I capture are moments that resonate with me, compelling me to share those feelings with others. One of my aspirations is to be able to offer top-notch photography services to other people, aiming to make it my professional career and I also have this dream that someday, I’ll create a name for myself as an award winning photographer, showcasing some of my best shots in my own solo exhibition.

The Thursday evening at Lotus Educational Institute’s Block 13 Knowledge Park studio was filled with inspiration and achievement as a significant milestone was celebrated—the graduation ceremony of Ms. Haifa Salama.

Haifa, a Saudi-born artist, began her artistic journey in her early years, displaying a keen interest in the arts during her school days. Despite working full-time as a Social Worker, she managed to carve out time for her love of drawing and painting. However, the pursuit of her passion faced challenges when she became a mother of two, leading her to temporarily halt her artistic endeavors.

In 2013, when her family moved to Turkey and her kids were older, Haifa decided it was time to reignite her artistic flame. Overcoming the difficulty of regaining her skills after a prolonged break, she delved deep into learning, furthering her artistic prowess. Upon moving to Dubai in 2019, she sought the best-suited art school and found Lotus Educational Institute, where she pursued her style in Impressionism and completed the Portrait Painting Programme.
